Episode Guide and Video Clips - Urban Pike

Overview

Many people are simply not aware of the fantastic pike fishery that Lake Ontario has to offer. There are literally dozens of bays, marinas and tributaries along the north shore of the lake that hold a good number of pike. On this weeks show, we expose one of these destinations. We chose Toronto Harbour, not only because of its obvious urban backdrop, but also for its ease of access. The area also has the potential to produce trophy Northern Pike for both boat and shore anglers alike.

This week, your host Shaun Rickard and Aron Locke share their wealth of knowledge with fellow anglers, demonstrating how to pursue and successfully catch these somewhat aggressive predators. Shaun describes some familiar and some not so familiar techniques and demonstrates how to successfully use various baits. He explains in great detail how to identify various structure and how to productively fish these areas.

Shaun's summary of the shoot: "This was a fun shoot and I really enjoyed my day on the water with Aron. As you may know, Aron is our web and graphic designer for the show so we don't get to fish together very often. It was a nice break for Aron to get away from his computers and to get out in the field with us. The fishing started out slow but once we found an effective pattern, the action really picked up. We actually boated around 18 pike between the two of us by the end of the shoot. It's just a shame that we can't show them all in the episode! Having said that, we originally planned to stay out for about 4 hours but it ended up being more like 8 hours. What can you do, it was a beautiful day and we were having fun! Work can always wait.

Urban fishing information: The Ministry of Natural Resources has gone to great lengths to promote fishing in and around our urban centers. In addition to the abundant pike, Toronto Harbour offers experienced and novice anglers the opportunity to hook into a variety of sport fish species.
