Overview
The Bay of Quinte has been a popular destination for anglers for many years now. The bay offers fantastic fishing for bass, pike and many other species. There is one species that the area is probably most well known for; trophy walleye. Anglers come from far and wide in Canada and the US to target them. The Bay of Quinte is one body of water in North America where fish of 6 to 7 pounds are considered "little guys". Trophies in the 12 to 13 pound bracket are caught here every season. Quinte is quite simply a walleye angler's paradise if you time your trip right.
On this week's show, Shaun teams up with Kevin Lavers, owner of Merland Park Cottages and local fishing guide. Kevin's property is strategically situated on Picton Bay, offering quick and easy access to some of the best fishing spots that the bay has to offer. It also offers access to the open waters of Lake Ontario for those walleye anglers that prefer late fall trolling techniques.
Shaun and Kevin will demonstrate techniques for "mixed bag" anglers heading to the bay. The pair target pike, bass and walleye using a variety of lures. The boys didn't do too well with the walleye on this particular trip due to the huge schools of shad that moved into the bay just days earlier. The walleye that generally cruise the deeper weed lines, bays and points just had too much available forage to be interested in what the boys had to offer.

When heading to the bay it is important to leave prepared. If one species is not biting on a particular day, you can simply move and target another!
Shaun's summary of the shoot: "What can I say, it was a great trip. Despite the fact that the walleye were somewhat hard to find, we had a lot of fun catching pike and bass! Kevin is a very gracious host and a great friend to boot. The night we arrived he put together a fish fry for my crew and myself. For those who know me, you know I don't eat a lot of fish, and I wasn't overly thrilled about eating walleye for supper, let me tell you. Man was I ever wrong. I don't know what these guys cooked that walleye in but it was absolutely delicious. By the way Kevin, if you're reading this, I want the recipe for that "secret" dip! Kevin, his wife Jennifer and his staff take great care of their guests and make everyone feel welcome. I would like to thank them all for their help in shooting this show. They made our lives a whole lot easier. Kevin is a true die-hard fisherman. This guy will go without sleep to ensure that his guests find fish in the bay. If you haven't been to Picton, I highly recommend it.
