Episode Guide and Video Clips - Kawartha Carp

Overview

This week Shaun takes you up to Katchewanooka Lake in the Kawartha's. Three young friends, Justin, Riley and Emily, join him for some early summer shore fishing for trophy carp. This is their first time carp fishing and the smiles on their faces prove that you don't need a boat to enjoy trophy fishing in the Kawartha Lakes.

The group stayed at Lakeview Cottages (Carp Canada) located at Young's Point, only 1.5 hours from Toronto. The resort is dedicated to and specializes in carp fishing, offering both lodgings and equipment for those who need it. Trevor Holloway, the owner of the resort will even pre-bait your fishing area (swim) for you prior to your arrival. This generally ensures hooking into fish from the moment you arrive until your departure.

In this episode Shaun covers hi-tech European set ups using the Fox Sky Pod, digital bite alarms and accessories from the UK. He also demonstrates less expensive alternatives that involve using the equipment that you likely already have at home. Getting kids into carp fishing, especially at a resort such as Lakeview Cottages, doesn't have to be difficult. Give Trevor a call and he'll take care of the rest! For those who want to fish for other species such as musky, bass, perch, pan fish and walleye, Lakeview Cottages also offers boat rentals and accommodations to suit your needs. Katchewanooka Lake offers excellent fishing for all these species, all season long.

Shaun's summary of the shoot: "This was yet another great opportunity to enjoy some fantastic fishing with youngsters. What a blast watching them react to these monsters coming onto the bank. It's a very gratifying feeling being able to teach kids the basics of fishing. Better still, watching them fight these truly under-utilized sport fish. My advice to any parent is to get out there fishing with your kids. These experiences really do stay with them forever. They may forget them for a while as they go through stages of growing up, but they will always come back! I know they did for me".
